Seminar: Wetlands, Recreation and Ecotourism
The Regional Seminar on Wetlands, Recreation and Ecotourism is being organised by the National Institute of Ecology, jointly in association with WWF-India and other organisations to celebrate the World Wetlands Day 2012, and as a contribution towards the 11th Conference of the Contracting Parties of the Convention (Bucharest, Romania; 19-26 June 2012).
The subject of the Seminar has been chosen to conform with the Ramsar Convention’s theme for the World Wetland Day 2012 and the COP11. The 3-day Seminar will be held during 21-23 March 2012 in Khajuraho (M.P.) - a UNESCO’s World Heritage site and near the Panna National Park and Tiger reserve as well as the Ken River Gharial Sanctuary.
The Seminar will bring together senior scientists, young researchers, Government officers and NGO representatives interested in wetlands from South Asian and neighbouring countries. Organisations interested in promoting ecotourism in wetland areas are also expected to attend.
To mark the
World Forestry Day (21 March) and the World Water Day (22 March) during the same period, special one-day sessions will be devoted also to all contemporary aspects of Forest Ecology and Conservation (including Protected Areas) and Water Resources and Their Management. Special attention will be focused on mangroves, riparian swamps, littoral forests and their linkages with climate change.
